Joshua's Song, a book set in Boston in 1919, and has as its central event the Great Molasses Explosion and Flood. I am adding this event to my history curriculum and was looking for books to complement it. This book treats this event with historical accuracy and gives older students with lower reading ability the opportunity to access information on this singular historical event.

This was a great read for middle graders.  It tells of the Great Molasses Flood in Boston, but also a lot about life in Boston at that time.

This book was so, so beautiful. I love all of Harlow's works, but Joshua's Song touches the deepest parts of the heart in a simple, bittersweet, and refreshing way.

Knowing that I love history, my grandma showed me this book and I sat down to read it. It didn't take me very long, but I enjoyed it. Since it is a historical fiction written for younger children, the writing wasn't as strong as I might have preferred, but I found the story to be interesting. Now I want to know more about the events mentioned. Perhaps I'll even take time to read other books by this author.
