I picked this up because it was nominated in the Graphic Novel category of the GoodReads Choice Awards this year. It ended up being a sweet YA tale about witchcraft, love, and friendship. Nova is a teenage witch who lives with her Nanas and works in their bookstore. Nova's childhood friend Tam returns to town on the tail of a mysterious horse-demon. Tam identifies as non-binary and also happens to be a werewolf. Nova, Tam, and the 2 Nanas all work to figure out how to vanquish the demon.

The story was sweet without being overly saccharine. And it also had some good lessons about inclusivity and believing in those you love.

LGBT characters galore, including a nonbinary character that uses they/them characters?? A character with hearing aids?? An Asian character?? Characters that have different bodies, styles, appearances, etc. etc.?? Magic???!!!!

Read this.

Severe lack of mooncakes.

Nah but for real, the queer, disabled, & PoC rep was amazing!! Pretty wholesome & sweet, and I love the art style.

The romance felt super rushed and I feel like there could’ve been an extra chapter or two to flesh some things out a little more.

The title definitely threw me off. I was expecting a Legends and Lattes type story, but mooncakes were literally only mentioned once. Otherwise it was a good time :)

This is poetically the cutest, coziest thing I've ever read. I could tell from page 1 it was my nice. For the wholesome spooky girlies, here is for jam. You're welcome! I'm only sad there's no more of it left! I'd love to see more of this relationship and world. And the graphics! I am deceased.
