This book is pretty much everything I wanted it to be. Romance plays an important role, but it's even more about family and friendship, and how those support systems can help you finding yourself. It's sweet and lighthearted without being boring. The characters are very well developed and loveable, it's impossible not to form an attachment and root for them. I found the story engaging and it leaves the reader with a simple but beautiful message in the end. It's probably not a book that will change your life drastically or shift in your seat, but it's a fun and wholesome read and sometimes that's just what you need.

This reads like a cute Hallmark film! Despite being a little predictable, I found myself entertained. I do wish one aspect of the main plot had been explored more (
Carla's death
), but I understand that would have probably turned the book into something the author didn't intend to. A quick and easy read for the weekend.

I really enjoyed this story. I feel fiercely protective of almost every character (except Tod of course but we saw that coming...) and I want to run away to a small English town!!

While this book definitely deals with some very heavy topics, there were some fantastic moments that made me laugh out loud to go along with the ones that made me tear up!
I also loved that this explored sonmany different kinds of relationships - grandmother/mother/daughter, community, friendships, romantic relationships. So many stories focus on the romance but this one, the community, familial, and friend relationships were even more integral and important and I really loved that.

This was a book I picked up on audio when it was first released and for whatever reason (British narrators usually really work for me), it didn’t click at the time.

I’m so happy I gave it another try because it was exactly what I needed at this moment and I loved it the whole way through.

You might enjoy this book if you tend to love stories about older people continuing to discover themselves and to live rich lives. Think The Lido, Eudora Honeysett, Lilian Boxfish… Also, if you enjoy a story about community, small town life, and all of the funny, complicated things that can happen in such places, this read will give you that.

In tone, I was reminded of the titles I’ve read by Jenny Colgan - light romance, gentle insights about life, a little heartbreak, happy but still believable endings.

Oh, and this book has SO many cups of tea in it, if that gives you a sense of how cozy and heartwarming it is.

I adored it!
