This is my favorite Amy Tan book so far. I absolutely loved the story and how everything is connected. It made a huge mark on my life when I needed it the most. It's in my top 20 favorite/most influential books. I highly recommend.

OMG after I read this book I almost couldn't even read another book! I could not get the characters out of my mind, it's that good! the story of a hapa girl born in the US meets her half sister from china who they bring to live with them and all of her superstition and quirky ways. you won't be the same after this book.

This book was both funny & sad . I had mixed feelings about the characters, loved Kwan but found her sister Olivia infuriating . An enjoyable read which kept me engaged all the way through.

There are many ghosts in this book so it is appropriate for this time of year. I loved Kwan, the half sister of the narrator. She is a fascinating and perceptive person.

It took me a little while to get into this one but once I did I didn't want to put it down. This included reading a half chewed up by the dog version. I could see where the storyline gets confusing, between past, yin world, and present, but there is a beautiful theme of hope and love throughout. I'm glad I came back to Amy tan because she has a talent for storytelling.
