I really love this book series. I love the 40s noir setting, I love the slightly sardonic characters, I love the inclusion of diverse characters in a way that does still feel authentic to the time period.

This story itself was compelling, and I found myself coming up with various theories along the way - none of which were the correct answer!

I did find the inclusion of the Olivia Waterhouse subplot a little confusing, as it's been a number of months since I read the second book in the series (was this even a continuing plot point? I don't remember!) but that is likely more on me and my memory than the author.

This cemented Pentecost and Parker as one of my all-time favorite series. Consistently witty, sharp, and engaging. The author’s note strikes a chord with me as well.
