I didn’t want to finish because the trilogy is so good and I didn’t want it to end.
This was a very satisfying ending and one of those stories where the characters are going to live on beyond the pages because they still have things to do. But I don’t want another book! The paths are there and I’m happy not knowing what they chose.

I honestly am unsure on how to rate this one. I did really enjoy it but felt there was a lot of wasted potential in it.
This book picks up from where the previous book left off, Vasya is held in contempt for the disaster she unleashed on Moscow and is tried as a witch. Although to say they used any form of fairness to do so would be pushing the boat a little too far.
I did enjoy Vasya's development in the novel. She never became this unrealistically strong character. Her ability to make allies of forest creatures seems to be much more of use than any of her powers. She also grapples with the price of using magic as she hovers on the brink of insanity quite a few times in this novel and I really like when that is included. Nothing comes for free.
There was a lot of characters I felt like we barely saw. Olga and Marya are barely in the novel which is such a shame as their interactions were some of my favourites. Morozko also disappeared for great stretches of time and that almost felt counterintuitive to the story.
Sasha has probably the largest character arc in this novel. I was slightly disappointed that there was only short conversations between him and Vasya about him fearing her eternal damnation, I just wanted more.
On that topic, like the previous book, this really felt like it had lost the Christianity vs the Old Ways discussion that it had in the first book. Konstantin's motivations throughout seemed really off right until his last scene, I just really didn't like that. We build up such a picture of him in the first book, that this just came across as OCC.
All being said I did like this as a conclusion, it just lacked certain elements that I really enjoyed from previous books.

the bear: (walking into the house and shoots a gun)
the winter king: THIS IS WHY MOM DOESNT FUCKING LOVE YOU
this book took me way longer to get through because of life but i am almost on my knees thanking my depression because i got to savor and enjoy this masterpiece.
vasya is probably going down in history as one of my favourite heroines EVER. she made mistakes, was selfish and didn't always make the 'right' decision but my GOD did she LEARN AND GROW!!! watching her mourn sashas death, realizing that she couldn't beg morozko to save her brothers life because she made that decision once and it made her sister mad.
aside from the bathhouse (where vasya gave it to morozko so good that he was like actually maybe i WILL save moscow with you) the ending of the book was my favourite portion. to see the growth that our characters went through to get to where they are. watching the understanding of what must happen with the bear dawn on vasya was an amazing moment to read, because ya SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH YOUR CHAOS BROTHER AND IT MIGHT SUCK BUT HES YOUR BROTHER AND SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO LET HIM HAVE A TURN ON THE XBOX.
anyway, this book was amazing and a beautiful end to a series that i have had so much join and learned so much from reading.
