(This review is not meant to insult the author in any way, this is just an opinion and how I felt after reading it.)

This was such a hard read- like horrible... all over the place. You knew from the beginning who was trying to kill her but the back and forth was awful the way it was done. total train wreck. The ending was leaving me frustrated for the main character because come ON seriously!?!?! NO. you can not be serious right now- you know damn well he was there to take those kids and he was in on this, and you're just going to leave with him. You MUST be stupid right???

I thought this story was a good one, it kept me interested and I wanted to keep reading. Slower at the beginning but then better. I did think the back and forth between characters was too much but that could just be me. Conor and Clare would have been enough for me. In the end I was happy with where the story went, however, I would have liked it to have been paced a little faster.

Fun Read

I liked the premise of the story. I feel like Claire’s character was not developed enough and it ended too soon.

For the most part, this was a fun read! Did I skim portions of it because it was getting a little too long-winded and theatrical? Yeah...

I read this for a book club I recently joined and even though I don’t normally go for mysteries/thrillers, I could barely put it down. Told in multiple POVs and across multiple timelines, this story has so many twists and turns as you try to figure out who is responsible for the suspicious attack on the wife of Connecticut’s leading gubernatorial and the murder of a fellow socialite who runs in the same wealthy circles. I’d definitely recommend reading this if you enjoy mystery, thrillers, “old money” small town drama, and stories about political cover-ups at any cost.

I loved this book so much! Luanne hooks you in quickly and then tells the story past and present! I wish I could read this over and over again! I hope she writes another sequel!

Right off the bat, as soon as you read the first page it gives you the idea that this book is going to be all about suspense. Claire is basically trapped because everyone is on Griffin’s side, but you learn this halfway through the book. Claire is smart and caught on since the beginning that Griffin was behind the murder of her friend.
This book will leave you guessing about every character regarding the murder, but the story gets conflicted by the ultimate power of corruption, money, and family. Griffin is the truest form of a psychopath, lacking empathy, narcissistic to its core, manipulator, and selfless.
If you are into mystery, this is it.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had listened to it as an audiobook.
