Fun Read

I liked the premise of the story. I feel like Claire’s character was not developed enough and it ended too soon.

For the most part, this was a fun read! Did I skim portions of it because it was getting a little too long-winded and theatrical? Yeah...

I read this for a book club I recently joined and even though I don’t normally go for mysteries/thrillers, I could barely put it down. Told in multiple POVs and across multiple timelines, this story has so many twists and turns as you try to figure out who is responsible for the suspicious attack on the wife of Connecticut’s leading gubernatorial and the murder of a fellow socialite who runs in the same wealthy circles. I’d definitely recommend reading this if you enjoy mystery, thrillers, “old money” small town drama, and stories about political cover-ups at any cost.

I loved this book so much! Luanne hooks you in quickly and then tells the story past and present! I wish I could read this over and over again! I hope she writes another sequel!

Right off the bat, as soon as you read the first page it gives you the idea that this book is going to be all about suspense. Claire is basically trapped because everyone is on Griffin’s side, but you learn this halfway through the book. Claire is smart and caught on since the beginning that Griffin was behind the murder of her friend.
This book will leave you guessing about every character regarding the murder, but the story gets conflicted by the ultimate power of corruption, money, and family. Griffin is the truest form of a psychopath, lacking empathy, narcissistic to its core, manipulator, and selfless.
If you are into mystery, this is it.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had listened to it as an audiobook.

Fast paced thrill ride from start to finish!

I almost didn't read this one based on terrible reviews of another book from the author. I'm glad I did. I love fast paced thrillers with good character development, and this checks all the boxes. I am not a fan of jumping around the time-line, as this story does, but it was so quick paced that I didn't really mind. Thoroughly enjoyed this one from cover to cover!

Enjoyable page turner

Although I was a little confused at first, seeing the days earlier/days later section headings, once the story pulled me in (right away) I fell easily into the rhythm of before and after. Wondering if it would have made more since to me if those words had been used instead. Anyway, the pace of the story was almost perfect, with only 2 or 3 back-story descriptions that I found myself skimming when I may have needed to pay attention. I had already guessed some of the twists and turns long before they were revealed, but reading how they unraveled was still quite enjoyable because of the author’s gift of story telling.
