Frankly, I don't know why this story was included. It bears no relevance to the plot as far as I can tell, though it does provide some background information on Phoenix Station politics and Hart's life outside the fun situations diplomacy puts him in.

Fun to listen to a story about such a intellectually diverse family.

Another interesting chapter that, even so, ends up feeling like filler and increases my worry/wonder how Scalzi is going to wrap this all up in the few chapters he has left. I'm starting to think that he isn't, and all of this is basically just positioning plotlines for his next full novel.

In any case, it was interesting to see Schmidt in a new setting, on that doesn't make him as nervous/neurotic as the Diplomatic Corps, and I liked finally getting to see a bit more of life and planetary politics on Phoenix, which is present through most of the series, but not really explored.
