I really enjoyed this book and wish that I had more like it when I was a child. The colors and art were fantastic.

This is a wonderful book in so many ways. It is the celebration of a color but it is also a celebration of nature, family, and life. The grandparents care for the older (soon to be) sibling as they explore all the ways in which nature takes care of the wild and us. I had never considered how the color brown is found in so many natural things and feel that it is a color taken for granted. You cannot in this book as the illustrations are so clear, colorful, and beautiful, it is like watching an animated cartoon as you read through the book. This book would be wonderful for any family welcoming a new baby, becoming a new big sibling, in celebration of Grandparent's Day, and Earth Day.

Gorgeous prose and illustrations. This book is a love letter to the color brown and brown-skinned children/people everywhere.

So: DO NOT TELL ME THAT RACISM IS NOT TAUGHT!
My storytime kids were more fixed on the brown elements of the story. And not the characters themselves. Because when I asked if the person was brown I got "no, she's a girl."
I rest my case.

Read it before gifting it to my younger cousin.
