Nothing really happened in the book. Its a quick and easy read, but there's not really a plot. It is calming to read, so its got that going for it.

I really liked this story and it was well-written. I listened to it as an audiobook on Hoopla so I had to be careful about hearing the dates so I know where the story was jumping around to. For a lot of the book I did not like Christina, but I think by the end she realizes that she was disagreeable and at least she acknowledged it. I know the art that this piece was based on- I had to write a short story about it myself when I was in seventh grade. I did poorly on that assignment and to this day it haunts me that I let my partner down. That is neither here nor there. This book led to some good personal questions: are you where you are because you chose it or because you ended up there?

This book is as quiet and austere as the paintings and the life it describes. I enjoyed this story of Christina Olson, and I enjoy the way Kline can mix historical fact into her historical fiction, bringing life into the bones of a story. I'm fascinated by Maine and the false piety depicted here, to a god of hard work, independence, land ownership, and a familial duty that honors family history and legacy more than individuals.

Books set in Maine always make me feel connected to something, and more specifically the northeast parts of North America.  I loved getting a glimpse into the time period of late 1800s to the 1950s and the story behind Wyeth's "Christina's World" was so wholesome, sorrowful, and persevering.

Read this for one of my book clubs. I really wasn’t enthusiastic when I read it , but I appreciated it at least a bit more after our discussion.

Beautifully told imagined story of the real life of Christina and the intersection of her world and Andrew Wyeth's time in Cushing Maine. Erie, haunting, raw and real.
