I found this much better than the first book in many ways. It's more put together, clearly better structured. There's more care taken to have the characters be characters of their own instead of a stereotype that exists to propel the plot, which is especially relevant for the ladies... I found the main romance to be uncompelling still tho, as it seemed too much like the previous romances which had very little going for them in their Own.

This is especially hammered home by the fact that it feels like Fiona loses her interesting bits to prop up the sudden romance... i think they'd be better suited to slowburn. Additionally the way everyone tries to make Maric feel better for murdering his ex in a fit of rage leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The later chapters really kept my attention and filled me with the emotions they were trying for, which is also a major improvement. I think also the Lore additions make this book super super worth it, which is not something I would say about the previous one. Overall, pretty good!

Heartbreaking and tense. Even though I knew that certain outcomes from playing the games, there were still a lot of moments where I was worried certain people weren't going to make it.
