DNFed at about halfway through. Really wanted to care about anything that was happening but just couldn't. Essentially just every cliche in the book mashed together in one superfluous semi-story.

This book is very detailed and the characters are well developed. Everyone has secrets and everyone has flaws and these flaws are more evident as the plot unfolds. I liked that the message of the book essentially was about the mother and her daughters finding a way to accept each other's flaws and come together in order to conquer the larger issue aka the husband/father Paul.
I wasn't sure how i felt about so many things happening all at once to this family. I understand that Janelle Brown was trying to play on the "skeletons in the closet" of suburban families but usually there are only one or two secrets and they don't get revealed so quickly. The climax of the book felt like a big cluster of anything that could possibly go wrong.
This book did have great pacing and a lot of great details and i liked it a lot overall.

I did not like this book at first- she is an overly descriptive writer, and I felt like the story was being obscured by excess words.
However, I was sucked in and ended up really liking it.

Unlike books where things fall apart, this books starts with things falling apart, and explores how and whether a family can begin to put them back together again. I would have given it another star if the author hadn't tortured the characters so badly - it got painful at times.

Awesome book! I felt like I was suffering along with each of the main characters and had such apathy for them.

Had a hard time putting down at points simply because the lives of the characters were such train wrecks.

I didn't finish this book- got to page 145- but I thought I would review it anyway. This book received a lot of hype so I was excited to find it on sale at a store closing sale- but It wasn't my style. I didn't stay engaged enough to finish it after reading it for 2 months.

Interesting book and well written. The only thing is that I want too happy with the ending.

3.5 Stars

Turns out I have definitely read this one before. I didn't realize it until a few pages in and things were starting to sound extremely familiar, but by that point I was already too invested in finishing at least finishing the book. Even though I had read it before I only remembered vague story lines involved. It was a fun book, but nothing too memorable. I generally enjoy getting a peak into the lives of the rich and wealthy even if they seem to be griping about seemingly minuscule problems, so I enjoyed that aspect of the book and it is probably the reason I gave it 3.5 stars. It was a little too long for me though. By page 340 or so I was starting to itch for it to be finished and I still had another 70 pages to read. Overall not a bad book but one that I won't be picking up for a third time.
