This is a pretty mediocre mystery / action book. There are major plot holes all over the place. The character is cookie cutter action guy. His deductions are ridiculous at times. The book is Arnold doing a Sherlock impersonation.

The read wasn’t so bad though. May listen to second to see if it’s any better

In the transient life of ex-military policeman Jack Reacher, Margrave, Georgia, becomes an unexpected pitstop. However, the town's hospitality takes a chilling turn when, within an hour of arrival, he finds himself behind bars, accused of murder. Confident in his innocence, Reacher struggles against the odds to make the town believe in his noninvolvement in the crime.

What can I say? I almost certainly do not go back and read the book if I have seen the movie/TV show adaptation, I can't separate the two and it never makes for an enjoyable read. With that said the TV show is miles better than the movie, what were they thinking making Tom Cruise try and personify Reacher? There was no way on Earth that that would ever realistically work. With that said, I would highly recommend the TV series. The main actor, Alan Ritchson, is spot on and fits perfectly with how Reacher is supposed to be portrayed and act. I absolutely love the writing style! The man of few words style makes it that much better.

Not the worst book. Narrator is a bit older/aged than I would home for a 30 something man like reacher. Jack reacher is sort of a psycopath, only in so much as he’s the victim of an authour who thinks pragmatism and being the best murder man is enough characterization for a man who is actually suppose to be likeable.

Reread after 20 years. This book was the basis for the first season of Reacher on Amazon Prime. I hadn't remembered too much about the book from last time, except the overall scheme (which was a surprise for those going through the first time). I see that Child's writing has improved since he started this series here. A lot of Reacher's routines were still being developed - here he has been a hobo for only about 6 months. Very little has been developed about Reacher's career in the military (as covered by many subsequent books) or details about his parents and brother. It's an excellent plot although we give the author the benefit of imagining the operation on a large scale. Some useful information provided as background which have importance as the story develops. The TV series follow the book fairly closely.
