A great introduction to Jack Reacher. I enjoyed him very much throughout the book. He reminded me of my Father/Grandfather.  Great detective work and many twists and turns I didn’t see coming.

I could see if you had trouble  connecting with him or just didn’t like him it wouldn’t be as entertaining.

I’ll definitely be continuing to see what else Jack gets himself to into

Well, I've read worse from Child.
Very much 1980s Schwarzenegger / Rambo action flick. Reacher does have some depth and the meet-cute would do certain romance novelists proud. As for Child's writing style, it doesn't change.

Yep, Season 1 of the TV show did this justice! Reacher is faced with seemingly limited information and insurmountable odds in hand-to-hand combat, but rather than hand-waving and saying he's just so strong he powers through everyone, he's creative and smart about his choices. The character is refreshing in that way, and in his actual preference for the nomadic lifestyle (rather than it being some self-inflicted purgatory for imagined past crimes that most of the macho male leads like to have in action stories like this). I'll definitely continue the series!

3.5 stars. Silly really but entertaining enough. Inevitably a Hollywood blockbuster at some point.

I needed a book to get me out of a reading rut and the OG Jack Reacher *always* does the trick.

The best in the series, as it perfectly balances the action with character study (as all first books introducing the series protagonist should do).

Whilst some sections have certainly aged questionably, and the character of Jack hasn't quite hit his stride (yet!), the fight scenes in this book are unparalleled.
