3.5 stars on 2023 reread
Rereading this series and was pleasantly surprised by how much I still love the first book. This one was a slight miss, unfortunately.
The plot here has so much less direction than the first book. It meanders and sits too long in one spot. The character development is as strong as I expect from Maggie, but the short, choppy chapters made it feel like she had as much trouble writing it as I did reading it. Don't even get me started on the constant head-hopping. Really, it was a bit disappointing on a craft level. The characters and worldbuilding saved it.
Side note, I was surprised by my dislike for Adam on this reread. He was my absolute favourite the first time around. I hope I regain my love for him in the next books, because I will definitely be rereading them soon too.

Took off a star because I just wish there was more Blue time... :/ Don't get me wrong, Ronan's a very dynamic character, but for a sequel it focused too much on him. (I know that's the main point, but still, seeing Blue more with the boys would've been nice.)
