My husband has been on me to read these books for years and I don't know why I didn't cave sooner. I absolutely loved this- the thieves elaborate planning and plotting of the revolution, the magic systems, the transformative story arc of Ven, the characters and their dynamics within the group, the fact that they all had things to learn and room to grow and it just developed so well- plus the writing style was great too. I can hardly wait to dive back into this world with the next book.

My Fair Lady meets Oceans 11 during the French Reign of Terror. Also the power and abuses of religion is discussed in not so subtly ways - so unsubtle in fact you don’t even think about it as a message, just as part of the story.

Coolest magic system ever along with me loving ever single character in the book and the villains were insane. Never once did I know how an action sequence would end or how the main character would get out of her situation. Immense creativity and world-building, my favorite book of 2024 easily.

There was a lot of world building, but I did love the characters in this book and it made me hate characters too. But all in all it was a fun time. Be prepared to get a lot of information to digest but by the end love every second of it.
