I hated this book and loved it (mostly hated it.) But I guess that's a sign that it's truly special. Gosh darn it Marissa Meyer, your writing is astounding. What an incredibly heart-breaking read, and yet I still find myself putting it on the favorites shelf. I would recommend, tentatively, since the sadness surpassed my expectations. Tears will be shed and lives will be changed, but this book is still a true masterpiece. I only wish it had a happy ending, but I guess that would defeat the purpose.

I was a big fan of Alice in wonderland growing up so i knew i would like this book—and i did. I think it was an enjoyable quick read with an interesting setting and plot, but some parts of the book infuriated me or plain confused me. The mc, Cath, had her moments but most of the time bothered me from her unwillingness to stand up for her self. But overall i still enjoyed the book and the many Alice in Wonderland references! 4/5 stars.

The story started off a little slow for me but definitely picked up towards the middle/end.

Such an insightful backstory to the Queen of Hearts, I was really rooting for her and felt for her, and the unwravelling of how she ends up as the Queen was thrilling and eery and heartbreaking.

The world of Wonderland is so alive and I loved every bit of lore and foreshadowing that linked to the Wonderland we all know from Alice.

I only wish we could have seen her parents suffer a bit more in the end since they’re so selfish and dismissive. Then only when they see how empty she becomes, they act like they cared at all for her happiness.

I gave it a 4 but it's more like 3.5.
I used audible for this book and I absolutely LOVED and obsessed with the narrator. She was absolutely my favorite of everyone that I've listened to so far. If you're still debating whether to listen to this book, I encourage you to do so! Absolutely AMAZING!

**********
While I enjoyed listening to the narrator, I didn't quite enjoy the story itself. The beginning and middle were great but the ending... I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I still recommend listening to the book though.

Another cracking tale inspired by an older fairytale/children's book.

Imaginative, clever, witty and filled with woe, this is a perfectly ingenious explanation of why Wonderland is in such dire straits when Alice finally tumbles into it, and why the Queen of Hearts has no heart of her own.

Have had this book on my shelves for years, but because I never saw the Alice in Wonderland movie, I did not feel the need to pick it up. But what a good book! I think I’m glad I’ve never known the story of the Queen of Hearts (only that she was evil).
