Magical! A beautifully tragic insight of the world of Marilyn Monroe told with astonishingly poetic and beautiful language. A true artist! A very very interesting read. <3

I loved hearing from Marilyn's point of view on her life and fame and opinions of different topics. She's actually really smart, but street smart. (: She's a shy person, so this book was so fun to get inside her head. I loved that she didn't fit in with the rest of Hollywood with all its fake stars and important people. She was an honest and real woman; a rare gem to find in Hollywood. I also loved that she wasn't a total nympho like most of the world thinks. She was such a lady.

i loove this book so far. It really gets into the background story and it's in her words.

this was beautiful. there are feminist bits that we have vocabulary terms for today (such as "nice guy"). it was like reading a mixture of poverty & me too. she was very perceptive. towards the end it felt like there was more counterfeit bits. but to be fair, when people slut-shame so heavily it can be isolating. i just didn't buy the parts where she called wives bad when she was basically asexual. i suspect this could be interpreted as "conversion (rape) therapy". but yeah, norma/marilyn as a sensual asexual seems legit & having power over others in terms of sexuality probably appealed to her too. she would've fit in so well today. alas, i'm thankful she's iconic & was able to speak up.

Update: i am still proud to have read this book & it taught me that people experience similar things across different eras. therefore, I am giving this book 5 stars now because of the importance it played in my life.

I do hate the counterfeit bits though. But whatever, they do stand out.

First published about a decade after her death, this felt like I was reading Marilyn Monroes's personal diary. In it she recounts her early childhood, her views on men and women, the industry and it's inability to take her seriously as an actress, her one-sided "feud" with Joan Crawford (my favorite part), her marriage to Joe DiMaggio and abruptly ends around the time she married Arthur Miller.

"Although I doubt this book was supposed to be the posthumous crown it became, it is still a crown. I can’t recommend this book enough. For film aficionados, Marilyn lovers, struggling artists, or if you’re a victim of toxic masculinity and catcalling, you’ll relate to this biography."

Adorable, short book with its heartwarming moments; it glossed over Marilyn’s horrid experience at the Hollywood rounds, though, as a girl with the wolves; it was merely alluded to.
Honestly, if this book was ever completed, I’s probably have given it 5*s… but well. Life happens.
