“As we near the heart of Tokyo, the streets turn crowded, until the sea of people jamming the sidewalks makes Times Square look empty by comparison.”

this book was SMART and I absolutely adored it. I may have figured it out but it also managed to surprise me also. Very, very excited for Wildcard.

Lu has really matured as a writer with this book. When reading the Legend series, I was intrigued by the plot and characters but always disappointed by the cliches that the characters fell into and the way the plot would gloss over some of the world building. Much to my delight, in Warcross Lu fleshes out one of the concepts briefly discussed in the Legend series—a world that blurs the distinction between reality and a video game.

Even though I guessed a couple of the big reveals at the end of book, I still couldn’t put it down, which speaks to how immersive the new world that Lu has created is. The pacing was flawless and I fell in love with each and every one of the characters. The questions of morality in an increasingly digital age that are set up in this book point to an unforgettable YA series.
