Gorgeous, in writing and visuals. There’s something so compelling and incredible about this location, and these kids. I could read 4 more books about them and still be hungry for more. Incredible.

This was a fantastic YA graphic novel. This story does a great job of showing, through our main character, Aiza, what it's like growing up with stories of heroes and knights, only to learn that what she's been told and taught to admire is nothing but imperial propaganda.

This is a very important read that I highly recommend. This story reaches us to question and look deeper at the stories of 'heroism' that we're told by our government, and to look at what goals spreading these stories helps them to achieve. It's not easy to look the truth in the face. It's painful and messy and can leave you feeling uncertain, but it's better than being complicit in perpetuating the cycle of violence.

I do wish that the story was a little longer only because the ending  felt a bit rushed, but that's really the only complaint I have.

TW/CW: blood, colonialism, death, racism, violence, war
