Gorgeous art with a compelling story examining the cost of empire—Squire is something special.

I think this story would have benefited from being multi-volume... the arcs felt too condensed to really breathe and allow for full emotional impact. But I'm very glad to have Squire on my shelves to return to (and loan out!) for many re-reads.

I adored this book from a worldbuilding and aesthetic perspective. It felt interesting and rich, however, it was way too short and felt rushed through the plot and character development so that the final message feels way too simplistic for such an ambitious world. The characters and world deserved more time, like a full series or webcomic to fully get the impact of what is explored and proposed, instead of having so many "montages" and having things told to us rather than seen.
