Lovely artwork. A book for middle grade and YA readers, especially, that manages to distill the complications of colonialism, assimilation, and war with an ending that is appropriately, but not unrealistically, hopeful. It was a relief in some ways to read a YA graphic novel that portrays complicated diaspora experiences like the authors'.

I labeled this "fantasy" though there is no magic or dragons to be found here. It's so familiar it could almost be historical-fiction. A very compelling story with crisp and energetic art, I knew from the moment I saw the cover that I would enjoy it, and I was right.
