I really enjoyed this book. I only wish it had been longer.
The graphic novel format worked great, it made for some great montages, and the colors added to the atmosphere.
It touched on some heavy themes.
The characters felt realistic, and I enjoyed the relationships between them.

WOW, THIS BOOK!!! I wanted to have a lighter read in between two heavier ones…but this turned out to be as heavy as could be, dealing with heavy topics and making me ugly cry. I’m mad that there doesn’t seem to be a sequel in the works because there absolutely should be!!!

It’s beautiful but felt like it needed to be longer to fully explore and fulfil what it set out to do.

The themes were well expanded upon, and it told a good story that resonates with unjust wars, nationalism, immigration, and forced cultural assimilation. the themes were really the only part i liked about the book. it wasn’t bad, it was just… kind of boring and predictable.
the art wasn’t my favourite, but there was strong character designs and use of colour to create atmosphere and forward the story.
this book i think would hit best with a younger audience, especially those who have experienced the struggles of being an immigrant in a land that doesn’t like you
