Such a good story about finding your way when reality is very different from your dream. Fun and endearing characters with colorful illustrations made this a treat to read.

What a great graphic novel. My only real complaint is that I wish the story had more time to breathe and that I had more time to spend in this world and with these characters. Feels very, very prescient, and that's because the people behind this story know the importance of standing up to oppression.

In the letter at the end of the book, author Nadia Shammas writes:
"No more orcs. No magical chosen ones. Just people learning how to unlearn the justifications of colonialism and finding their way. Each of us must find our own way there: It's my hope that you found something in this book to help you on your journey."

Art was absolutely stunning. I read this book because I thought it was queer focused lol but it was only very very subtle. I also wish there was even more to the story, I felt like some parts were rushed / glossed over.

An impressive and beautiful story on empire and one’s place within it.

Both the artist and the author let us into their thinking and their processes in the back of the book, and I loved catching a glimpse of how this story was conceived and brought to fruition.

Love a shoutout to Tanoreen, too. Try their stuffed cabbage!

The good:
- Characters were likable (or at least understandable)
- I liked how it tackled themes of history as a weapon and war within a multi-racial empire
- I also liked how the themes didn’t get in the way of the storytelling
-The art was!! Absolutely scrumptious!!

The not so good:
- The scope of the story felt way to large for just a stand-alone and often things felt rushed
- Character relationships and development fell a little flat
-Overall the highs and lows felt too shallow and not as satisfying as something like a series or a full-text work could pull off
