Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review.
Squire is the rise to glory fantasy novel I wish had been around sooner. This middle-grade novel has excellent conversations about honor, the duty to yourself and discussions of the negative effects of colonialism and colonization on both countries and the people within them. It also has a pretty solid conversation on racism and stereotypes within societies and the lengths people feel they must go to find a better world for themselves. I also love the ending and the message it sends. This is definitely something to be on your TBR and to stock into your libraries for an adventurous story about personal honor and finding your own path against all obstacles.

The art and coloring was beautiful; the story was told in an engaging way; and it was really fast paced (maybe a little too much for me), which meant that every detail really meant something.

This was a lovely read about friendship and honor and choosing ones heritage. I'm trying to get back into graphic novels and this was a lovely beginning point. the characters were loveable and their personalities did not come off as flat. I did think the story wasn't as clear and the pacing towards the end was rushed. I feel like there were places they could have taken their times to put in more dialogue but overall I liked it. I would read a second book if they did one. I loved the art style as well. The colours were really nice and it all gave so much life to the dialogue. Definitely going on my recommendations list.

Oh and read Palestinian authors

I just can’t connect to it, soon as the parents let her go train for their oppressor I clocked out.
