This was one of the better books I read in 2022, and while it had some minor issues here and there, it's difficult not to come away with some lasting visuals that stick with you. It's a unique idea used to good effect, both intriguing and a little chilling.
The concept was so cool and promising, only for it to turn out as some Fight Club wannabe about literal drug addiction

girl, so gross and confusing
2 stars to Ghost Eaters.

*Sigh* much like Hell House I wanted to love this book, the premise intrigued me, but it just didn’t work for me at all and I kind of wish I had DNF’d it.
•
I will say the writing was really good and it did keep me turning the pages, I think the author had a great idea, the execution just didn’t work for me.
•
I loved the idea of exploring grief and addiction through the idea of a drug (Ghost) that lets you see the dead, but the characters of this story were just so one dimensional that it seemed to take away from the overall enjoyment for me. Erin's obsession with Silas became a bit much for me and by the end (especially the last chapter) I was just kind of done with her. And Tobias was just….ugh. Amara was the only one I liked.

This was most likely a case of wrong book wrong time for me, but I just wasn’t a fan. I’m not not recommending it, as I know many people have loved it, but it wasn’t for me.

the scariest thing about this book was how often the author writes “coochie coochie coo”

I really liked the commentary on grief and addiction. It felt like the author was also trying to comment on racism and the horror of American history but like. Really missed the mark there IMO. I also really, really hated the characters in this book.
No. Just no. Underdeveloped characters with no relatability. So much potential for a gripping story, but it was SO shallow and sometimes confusing. Ending was too much for the rest of the book. I did not like this one bit, I really don’t know why I kept reading. The worst part honestly was probably to dialogue between characters. So cringy, flat, and disconnected. The description of this book is gonna get a bunch of readers interested, but I’m sure a lot of them are going to feel the same way as me in the end
I had a hard time rating this book. I like the idea of it, but I feel like the connection between Erin and Silas could have been more effective if developed a bit more. Erin's decisions did not make sense at times. It takes a lot to turn my stomach, but there are multiple gross vomit scenes in this book and it was almost too much for me. My rating would be the same with or without that though.

A fairly mediocre book all told. A fantastic premise squandered on a weird narrative. You really hope it’s going to be one thing but it steadfastly decides to be something else, something much less interesting. Would have been better written by someone with a more literary bent. As it stands, perfectly acceptable prose and pacing but disappointing story.
