it hooked me from the first page despite having weird moments of dialogue or interjections from the MC. i enjoyed the creativity in the horror and the way the narrative explored its themes of harmful cycles and attachments. however, the ending made me feel like the author didn’t trust his readers to pick up what he was putting down.

Just couldn't get into the story. By the time the spooky, horror elements of the story started to pick up, I was already tired with the main character. I get the grief, I get the sliding back into addiction real quick with an obsession and the premise did sound interesting but I just got bored real fast.

A a recovering addict, this book really struck a cord. I love the supernatural horror eliminate added to an already horrific tale of addiction. My heart broke so many times for Erin.

The author did a phenomenal job expressing how hard it is to overcome addiction in every form. How hard it is to let go of someone abusive. How hard it is to deal with grief. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when diving into this book, but it blew me away.

“I want to live” every addict in recovery has said this

Listen, this may be 5 stars, honestly. I have to sit with it for a little while and sort through the well of big feelings this book brought to my life. Around the middle, I kinda detached from the story a bit but that may have just been a me thing so… stay tuned.

For now, I will say that this book genuinely had me scared and creeped out several times and pretty consistently through the entire read.

The main characters, their stories and connections are instantly relatable. Then, the spooky stuff starts and I was in no way prepared. My toxic reader trait is that I try to guess the endings and twists, even when I go in blind as I tend to do. I was unsuccessful here, I had no clue what was coming next. The excellent writing and atmospheric, haunting story kept me in the dark and it was deliciously horrifying.

I opted for the audiobook version and the narrator did an incredible job at creating an extra layer of immersion into this already fantastic story. Genuinely unsettled and scary.

I’ve now talked myself into it- 5 stars, go read it.
