Hated the writing, hated the characters, hated the plot, saw the ending from about the halfway mark.

It's a pretty okay book. It surrounds Erin and her love for Silas who is a drug addiction. When he dies their best friend Tobias reveals they were taking a drug that allows you to see ghosts. It was pretty okay! To me I thought the ending was lacking, but I read the book in less than 2 days! Fastest read for me this year!

This, was a ride. Weirdly enough, I expected this story to seriously freak me out and be incredibly atmospheric. However, I didn't feel a chill in my bones, or weirded out like I'd hoped. A very bizarre story for sure. I really enjoyed the writing style so intend to pick up more from Clay McLeod Chapman in the future

Beautifully Gruesome

Another great read from Clay Chapman. Filled with vivid, yet gruesome, imagery. There were some misses with the sorry lines - some things I wish they explored further and some that should have been left out all together. But his visuals really make the book worth it.

If you're a fan of Grady Hendrix or Mike Flanagan, check it out.

It infuriates me that Erin's entire life would never pass the Bechdel test but I can't deny that this story was well told

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the plot, and some things were very relatable (as in trying to help someone, until you cannot bear to anymore) so as it was relatable, aside from all of the paranormal stuff, this made me think about a lot. The author definitely could have expanded certain spirits Erin did see and why they were there. Some of the book I could clearly imagine in my head, then there were other parts I was simply just lost. Towards the end it was somewhat predictable (for me at least) and I had a few “I knew it” moments. The way Tobias suddenly became outgoing, and conversational was kind of a tell tale sign that a spirit (Silas) must’ve taken over his body. His manipulative demeanor and his dialogue was a tell tale sign it was Silas because Tobias was basically a leech stuck on Silas. There were a few things I just didn’t understand in the book, or didn’t see the relevance in adding it to the book but I digress. I enjoyed Erin the main character. Amara and Tobias annoyed me. Silas annoyed me the most. But I suppose they were meant to. All in all, despite some of the things I’ve listed, I did enjoy this book and finished it relatively quickly. The plot hooked me in and made me wonder what was next to come. I liked how the “ghosts” resembled things that just haunt us at human beings. Traumatic experiences, toxic relationships, etc which turn us to darker things like drugs.
