I was ready to love this book but it ended up being a disappointment. The beginning of the book started strong and I was excited to see where the story went, but the characters were never fully fleshed out and the plot went off in multiple directions without really solving anything.

I was never convinced of the connection between Erin and Silas. I understand that they had a toxic relationship, but Erin's willingness to ruin her life for Silas seemed over the top and unrealistic. None of the characters had any kind of development and Erin ends up exactly where she started by the end of the book.

There was no cohesive plot and while the author would start to develop an interesting point, it would be abandoned and a new plot point would start (and subsequently be left unfinished

Solid 3.5. A bit of a slow start. The switch from like ghost horror to body at the end was jarring, but in a really good way. The epilogue wasn’t great. But overall, enjoyable horror read.

It was a solid three stars for me. I liked the premise, the characters, and the new haunted drug concept but somewhere it all fell a bit short for me. There were a couple of times when the setup was ripe for something nice and creepy to happen but then it would sort of deflate. The drug culture part felt realistic (if you've ever been in a situation where you've questioned whether you and your friends are doing too much - you'll know what I mean) but even this became repetitive and boring by the end. I just wanted more from it overall.

A weird tale of grief and addiction with some truly creepy moments. This book touches on death, loss, cults, trauma - both individual but also the historical trauma of a place (ie slavery, the genocide of Native Americans) and the how those ghosts are always there even if we can’t see them, but it mainly is about how grief drives people to addiction.
