Ein sehr sehr gutes, wenn auch depressives Buch. Yozo ist auch vielen Ebenen ein sehr trauriger Charakter, zu dem man trotz seiner Fehler eine Beziehung aufbaut.

I cannot even describe my feelings while reading this book. Empty. Hollow. Sad. Mad. I did not know what I should feel, or even how to feel.

This was my second time reading Dazai's work, and once again, it deserves no less than five stars. It is raw, heartbreaking, and deeply disturbing, definitely not for the faint of heart. The book is painful, but also strangely beautiful. It is written so beautifully that I found myself unsure of how to react, as if the words flowed with a natural ease that made the heaviness even harder to bear.

To put it simply, this is an existential novel. Or, if you want, you could even call it a suicide note.

this book was a really fun read. it does not read like a standard plotline with rising action, climax, twists, etc. it felt very messy to me how different ideas are introduced but in a good way, because it makes sense given we are seeing a first person recount since the main character himself is extremely troubled. on a personal level, this story scares me because i can relate to the character but maybe not on such an extreme scale and i am concerned my future ends up being like that. all in, this is one of my favourite books as of right now (i havent read much) and im surely going to read more of osamu dazai's writings
