It’s scary how much I related to this book. I’ve never had a word to describe my struggle, but this was perfect. It was raw and beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. I was very sad.

Finished the book out of spite. I usually DNF rather liberally, but this really felt like letting the book win and that didn't quite sit right with me 🤪

No Longer Human is the kind of book that feels like a very drawn-out exercise in critical thinking and stewing in deep discomfort without much pay-off. While I don't feel like I wasted my time reading it, I have no desire to re-read it or recommend it to anyone. There are other stories out there that deal with the dissection of humanity in ways that speak a lot more to me and, maybe most importantly to me personally, that don't lean so heavily on misogyny and ableism to get their points across.

Me ha gustado mucho la decadencia que describe Dazai. El libro fluye con una naturalidad muy agradable y se ve enmarcado por el inicio y el final. Ese toque autobiográfico me ha encantado.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. It consists of mostly monologues of the thoughts occupying Oda's head. Instead of describing how he sees the world, he decides to decribe how he thinks others perceive him. To me, this was uninteresting. I wished to know more about how Oda felt during his interactions. The story of how he got addicted to drugs and alcohol was decribed beautifully, and every glimpse at how Oda thought about life was intriguing. Especially knowing that this book was essentially the author's will. However, it was hard to stay immersed in the story when Oda's continuously interrupts it with his thoughts. 2/5

the way people talk about it just doesn't feel like it aligns with the book I read. Maybe the translator didn't do a great job or something because so many people find it impactful and profound and I thought it was just sexist and whiny.

Grotesque yet polite. The question of what it means to be human, the likes of humanity and whether or not your experiences are a reflection of you or you are a reflection of your experiences. I didn’t know whether to pity Yozo because of what he was handed in life or turn away in disgust because of who he chose to become because of it.
