I read this on the plane to Vietnam on my kindle and honestly I couldn’t get into it. Maybe I was distracted with the travel and how uncomfortable I was but I didn’t enjoy it that much. I think the last 20 per cent was the most interesting to me. It wasn’t good. Wasn’t bad. Was just okay.

 I could sum up my reading as an immense desire to hug Yōzō and, at the same time, give him a telling-off to get him to react. 

But the truth is that on many occasions I have been able to see myself in Yōzō, and in that mirror I have realised many things I did not know.
