"Tomato Soup. Grody."
Listen. I've used the word "grody" all my life until I actually meant someone with the last name Grody. Although Grody was actually grody himself. Lol.
I love that someone else uses that word whether a fictional character or not.
I digress.
This book doesn't have the greatest reviews but I actually loved it and couldn't put it down. It was so creepy and cringy that I had to keep reading to see what happened. I finished this book within 24 hours which is a hard thing for me to do as a new mom unless I seriously sacrifice sleep -- which I 100% did for this. Great book!

Couldn't put it down
To say you love a book is difficult when the subject matter is dark a!nd deeply disturbing. The suspense climbs in every chapter. An easy read, not for simplicity but because the story is so hauntingly real. The 80s were detailed to perfection ,taking you to the era especially if you had lived it. I don't like to write spoilers but having known families with alcoholic parents there is an element of trauma that can be unsettling

Although I'm in the criminal justice environment and am immune to a lot of things, this read gave me goosebumps and icky feels during some of the chapters. I feel like the point of view from a high school teenage girl that still is young enough to be naive and have crushes makes the realizations her world is not as bright as it seems makes this book's world more sinister.

3.5 stars. I read this in less than 24 hours which is a rarity these days so I was definitely hooked. It's a mystery, leading up to what you hope is this big reveal...and there are some reveals (or more like conclusions the narrator reaches and one true reveal) but literally in the last couple of pages and it's not well done. Very rushed and incomplete. Would have loved another 50-100 pages to wrap up a bunch of questions, but I know some authors love to leave you hanging. This was just disappointing, though.

The main character is young, but that allows the writer to get away with a few things an audience wouldn't accept from an older, more mature narrator. Properly creepy, not is a spooky sort of way, but in a "people can be such asshats" way.
