not terribly interesting. i enjoyed the novelty of a dragon story set in modern swamp setting, but that was about all i found notable about it. also there were alot of editing errors; the edition i have was first ed, so maybe they've fixed stuff about it now, but there was a lot of a character saying one thing on one page and another thing on the next page. also one of the main settings had two different names that it seems like they changed at one point but failed to find all the instances of that name being used to change them all to the final name.

This was a fun read for me, a first from this author and very entertaining. Certainly interesting to see how a dragon may fare in today's world and in the south.

This is the first Eoin Colfer I have read (I haven’t gotten to his Artemis Fowl series yet), so I was pretty unfamiliar with his humor. It took me a while to get into the gist of his writing (plus, this takes place in the Louisiana bayou, which is full of odd happenings anyway). Once I got used to the style, I breezed through and it elicited a chuckle or two. It was pretty zany and wacky and reminded me really strongly of Carl Hiaasen. Very pleasant read, all in all.

Not my personal cup of tea, but goodness I love how Eoin Colfer continues to blend the real world with the fantastical.

Loved it. I’m amazed that Colfer nails a contemporary fantasy comic novel that is full of Southern flavor. It is as if Tim Dorsey or Carl Hiaasen decided to write a novel together with the added magic of a dragon or two. Already had two copies devoured by friends who have never read Eoin Colfer and are now fans.

This was really fun. Audiobook narrator was excellent. Thought it was going to lose me with the silliness at one point but it was delightful and heartwarming! I will say Hook's character was inconsistent in his misogyny.... I found it pretty unbelievable that he would hire female war heroes to be part of his team after the hatred for women he showed leading up to that point. But overall he was a worthy adversary.

I love Eoin Colfer. I grew up with Artemis Fowl, I loved Half Moon Investigations, and I enjoyed Fowl Twins so I was dying to get my hands on Highfire.

The writing is immaculate, which I've come to expect from Colfer, but this one missed the mark for me.

Maybe there's just too much grief and sadness and reality woven between fantasy and laugh out loud jokes, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
