I'm biased because pigs really are my favorite animal, but I wasn't expecting Sy's writing to captivate me as much as it did. It is scientific, spiritual, realistic, and full of love.

A wonderful memoir of a very special pig.... this from an non-animal lover.

A beautiful and amazing memoir chronicling the frienship between writer Sy Mongomery and her pet pig Christopher Hogwood. The book details the life lessons that Christopher imparts to Sy and the changes he creates in her and her husband's lives. Beware however, the sad and heart-breaking ending when time eventually takes its toll and Chris dies. Just a lovely, lovely book and highly recommended.

I met Christopher Hogwood once or twice when I was a kid (and Christopher was a kid too). It was fun to read this book knowing so many people and animals in it. The ending of course was sad but very true. My mom always says that people who are animal people always get pets even though they know they will outlive the animals but we still love them anyway. Of course, I didn't say that the way my mom says it. Anyway, this was a great book.

As usual, my literary soulmate, Sy Montgomery gave me 6h of bliss and grief, broke my heart and healed all at once. I adored this! I wish I could have met Chris.

This was the very sweet story of a couple rescuing a little runt of a pig and giving him a sanctuary at their rural NH home. The couple is of course the author, Sy Montgomery, and her husband (although it's mostly her story and he just pops in from time to time). Sy didn't know much about raising a pig, but she showered him with love while she learned the ropes. Pretty soon, her whole community knew about Christopher Hogwood and they would come to visit, bring him food, and even help rescue him whenever he made a break for it and started trotting loose through town (which happened surprisingly often!). This was a joy to read and I'm looking forward to more books by Sy Montgomery.
