I loved, loved, loved this book. Although it was a lot of the same old stuff chapter after chapter, I just completely fell in love with the author. She's everything I've ever wanted to be, and I admire her completely. Probably one of the best books I've read in a long time, and by far the most compelling!

I remember reading this a long time ago when I was in high school for summer reading. I'm pretty sure that I enjoyed it back then. Maybe I'll give it a reread soon!
adventurous funny lighthearted fast-paced

This was amazing! I loved the story and how it was really sweet and fun. The pictures in the middle were so much fun to look at. Christopher Hogwood was so important to Sy, it was amazing to read all about how he changed her life and helped her.

This is a good, good book. It was sweet and funny and it broke my heart.

A very sweet book about a pet pig who touches the lives of the author, her husband, and most of her little town. Color photo section really helps give a feel for the pig and his family.

I had a hard time with some of Montgomery's dealings with her parents (they are the definition of asshole - basically disowning their daughter upon her marriage - which isn't really even the worst of it.) While I appreciate her sentiments as she tries to accept them for who they are, it's just tough to swallow - but does help explain why the author has always felt more comfortable around animals!

And while I look forward to reading more of Montgomery's books, I did find some of her comments about those books and the travels they involved a little out of place here.

Despite these two minor, and mostly personal, defects, I would recommend this for folks who love animals and feel-good tales.

This is a memoir of a pig named Christopher Hogwood -- yes, a memoir, not a novel. It was a really heart-warming book without being cheesy or saccharine. I found it uplifting, inspiring, and fun. A nice, easy read. It was a little reminiscent of James Herriot's books -- funny and touching animal stories that remind you about what is most important in life.
inspiring lighthearted

Hands down my favourite book of the year.

It doesn't really read like a book though: it feels like listening to your dear friend describing their pet's hijinks in the most loving way. It's cozy and gentle and good. Sy's love for her animals and her raw love for life is visible in every single paragraph, every single sentence, and it makes you yearn for a simple life of simple, but incomparably more satisfying life.

And then the ending hits you like a goddamn rocket and you cannot stop bawling your eyes out.

Dear Kitty, Thank you for loaning this book to me; I'm really impressed by the role you played in its creation. Reading it made me miss you and wish that we could have been kids together. You're in my thoughts.
