Lovely memoir of Christopher Hogwood, a “good, hood pig.” Sy Montgomery’s books are a new treasure for me.

I feel like this book had a little too much anthropological information about pigs. Ms. Montgomery spends a lot of time with other cultures, learning about animals in the regions where in which she visits and during some of those visits, she learns about how they feel about pigs and throws that information in the book. While I think it is kind of neat, she does it frequently. (This includes some of the historical information about pigs too).

I also would have liked more pictures of Christopher! I enjoyed the pictures in the middle so much, I wish there were more of them!

One of my favorite pet books of all time and one that made me look at pigs differently forever after. Sy Montgomery is an amazing writer.

This is Sy Montgomery's loving tribute to her pig. It's as touching and enthralling as anything written by [a: James Herriot|18062|James Herriot|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1258249907p2/18062.jpg], with the added charm Montgomery brings to any topic. In fact, I believe Montgomery herself was the most fascinating character in this book. She is a wonderful person to hang out with, she tells a great story and thinks interesting thoughts. And, personally, I am just grateful to this book for introducing me to her. Otherwise, I might have missed out on [b: The Spell of the Tiger|26207353|A Spell to Turn Tigers to Butter|Amanuensis|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-a91bf249278a81aabab721ef782c4a74.png|46186395] and [b: Walking with the Great Apes|288877|Walking with the Great Apes Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, Birute Galdikas|Sy Montgomery|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1173446136s/288877.jpg|524291].

Sy Montgomery's writing makes you feel like you are just sitting around a table after a nice meal and she is telling you a life story. You are going to laugh, cry, and learn animal facts. It's not for everyone but, I found it charming. Christopher Hogwood is a good good pig.

In this book, Montgomery connects her far flung travels to her life in New Hampshire, anchored by her relationships, not the least of which was with her pig.
