Of course the pig dies. I knew that before picking up the book. I love animals and am drawn again and again to books like this, and then I am devastated at the end and tell myself never again.... and then...........;0------------- I love pigs. When I was a kid I collected items pig-related, and always thought I'd have one someday -- maybe someday yet..... so I was enthralled with this story of a little runt who grew into a massive 750 pig (I'm hoping my future pig never tops 400). I'm so glad the author included pictures, but I wanted more more more -- I couldn't stop looking at Mr C Hogwood - those ears and his massive size just made me laugh. I'm so glad he was able to spread such cheer and bring so many people together while he was alive -- like all other animals, the problem is that they never live long enough.........

I totally enjoyed this book. It's a quick read, but well worth it. Perfect for summer in the hammock. Perfect for those wanting to remember what makes life worth living. And it's about a pig.

Loved this book. Laughed plenty, cried a bit, and was plenty moved.

LOVED this good good book! Heartwarming story of a pig that captured the hearts of everyone he met. Made me smile, laugh out loud, and cry at the ending. Highly recommend it.

A delightful account of a life full of joy. It was like Charlotte's Web for grown ups.

I heard of this book in a video about the BYL Reading Challenge and decided I had to give it a read. It's a super cute (true) story about the author's life focused mostly around raising a pig from runt to full size. I really enjoyed reading brief snippets about her travels for work (so lucky!) and also about how the town rallied around Christopher Hogwood and his impact on everyone. Also, it feels like a while since I've read a memoir type book so that was nice.

I'm using this for the following 2023 BYL Reading challenge prompts (double dipping this year!):
With an animal on the cover
Set on a farm
informative reflective slow-paced

This book reaffirmed my love for pigs. Hearing Sy take such good care of Christopher and how much she loved her was so relatable. The community rallying around keeping their scraps to feed Christopher gave me faith in humanity. The only reason I didn’t rate it higher is because the storyline didn’t feel super fleshed out. It kinda just felt like reading a day-to-day log of the pig’s life, and it was absolutely pleasant and wonderful. That being said, it didn’t captivate me however I still enjoyed it immensely!

Non-fiction by a writer living in New England. Story of how old hippie farmer neighbors talked her into taking a sick runt pig who had the tenacity to continue to live, and how it changed her life. Really sweet book, funny, and if you are an animal person, very relatable. A lot about how having the pig changed people in good ways. A quick and delightful read.

This was so well written and funny too. After listening to the audio version, I went and bought the book because I enjoyed it so much.

this is a great story. it's a quick and enjoyable read- about a woman who adopts a pig and how her life changes as he grows.
