Something about the syntax of this book makes me lose all focus. It's like I start reading a paragraph and by the end of it I have no idea what I just read, while it was somehow super repetitive. 30 page curse, I guess.

I probably should have DNF’d this book. It really wasn’t for me - I think this is more a reflection on me and me figuring out what type of prose/writing I like in a book.
Unfortunately the entire book felt like a ramble. If I have to liken it to something, it felt very much like something a Year 11 drama class would come up with for their final exam piece. The entire thing felt pretentious, melodramatic and preachy without really getting to any real point.
Again, this is my viewpoint and I can appreciate that it may hit a completely different (correct!) nerve with others. However, this felt more like a poet trying to write a novel.
I’m so disappointed as the premise of the story really drew me in - it seemed so interesting to me when I read the blurb. Instead I was met with an unhinged, untethered, confusing novel that I did not enjoy at any point.

So, the thing is, I loved the writing. The writing contained so much and has so much value. But (yes there is a but) sometimes it was overdone. She tries too hard to make it too perfect. In this book there were also some kind of “poems”, the poems at the last pages were okay but some of them were shit and confusing.
—“that is as fucking hot
as a fucking freshly fucked fox
in a fucking bush fucking fire
confirmed fucking
Northern fucking Territory
fucking Police
fuck”
Like that poem is fucking shit. And there were also other times where it was just weirdly put.
“Time misses Death
Time Mrs Death
calling Time, Mrs Death
Time misses
Mrs Death
Time”
Am I stupid or is that poem just confusing?
Anyway I liked the story and what it was telling, but just those pages where I had to but the book down to just cringe, that is not it.
