DNF ~ Not rating because I usually enjoy Kiki Burelli, this just isn’t my thing. 🤷‍♀️

Glad it was a KU title

I didn’t realize this has ties to her other series, and while this can be read as a stand-alone, it is also apparent that details are missing, like understanding Chuey’s past and exactly how shifters are in this world. The daddy kink was only lightly done, not real intense at all. I liked it enough I may try the Bears Den series just to find out more about the world. I’m glad it was on KU

Meh, I feel like I can't give this a rating because I didn't even really care about this story enough to hate it or get annoyed or upset about the things I didn't like.

Like I just...didn't care for the characters, at all. They didn't interest me, they were very...by rote, none of the other characters interested me either, the conflict didn't interest me and I started skimming, the sex had no spark of anything for me...

This started out okay with a somewhat promising beginning but then it all went downhill for there. I just...didn't care, even though I tried to. It wasn't even a "I liked these things but didn't care about most of it" kind of deal...I just...didn't care about any of this, character or plot wise. Nothing grabbed my attention.

So I'm not rating this because I don't think it would be quite fair to even give it one or two starts when I don't even care about the things that had potential to be likable or even the things that didn't work in this story.

I just want to move on from this read. *sigh*

Didn't feel like a First Book. While reading it, I was very aware of it being a spinoff series, and havign not read anything else from this universe I often felt lost. There were lots of ideas that we're probably explained at length in other books that were glossed over here leaving a feeling of incompleteness, or feeling rushed. Still an okay read for what it was.

Good start to new series

The Hybrids are a new shifter race that are stronger than other shifters and will impregnate their mate. Chuey is young and needs a firm hand. Ryder is hybrid alpha and wants to give Cheuy a firm hand. They balance each other as rated mates do. I

I adore MC stories. That may have been what finally convinced me to read romance outside of the Regency category. They were the only contemporary romance I read for a long while. And it was certainly, along with the idea of shifters and an Alpha-type H, what drew my interest in [b: Under His Care (Hybrid Heat #1)|39949173|Under His Care (Hybrid Heat #1)|Kiki Burrelli|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1524712792s/39949173.jpg|61851980].

While this may be considered stand alone for some, I found there were quite a few pieces that were missing for me as this was my first book by [a: Kiki Burrelli|15723210|Kiki Burrelli|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]. There were several parts where I was confused or lost because I did not understand the world or to subtext between the characters. This was not a huge issue, but something to keep in mind when approaching this book as it was distracting. To me, stand alone means that I will understand the book entirely without having read anything previously and while I might miss an inside joke or two, I will get the important relationship dynamics. That’s not what I found here.

For those who are hesitant with this book because of the age play stuff, please do not be. It is so mild. They call each other “Daddy/boy”, but that’s about it beyond the mild BDSM moments of dominance and play. I actually liked that it was mild and more focused on the power exchange. Much more interesting to me.

Here again, I found myself reading a mpreg book. This was one of the better ones in that I loved how they talked about what it meant to them to be able to have a child that was a little bit of both of them. It was powerful and important. It left me with all the feels. So while mpreg may never be my fav storyline, I can absolutely support the idea of creating a literary world in which people of the same sex are able to have a child together.

The subplot to the romance here was okay. Nothing amazing, but it made sense and fit with the world that Burrelli created.

Available on KU.

Happy Reading!

4 stars. Great read that had a lot more going for it than just the surface level. It was more than I was expecting which I loved because while I do enjoy this author's work, I wasn't really expecting too much from this. If that makes any sense.

I loved the characters. Absolutely adored them which is always an automatic win for me. Chuey is the cutest little thing ever. His back story is so interesting and I need to go back and read the series where he's first introduced because I really need to see the entire revolution of his character. He still has some of his ways from when he lived in the jungle but he's also growing and evolving past that and it was pretty interesting to see. I loved that this book while it is still very much a romance, it was also a coming of age type of story for Chuey.

The romance in this is smoking hot. The chemistry between Chuey and Ryder was great. They work so well together and their whole relationship was just really cute.

The ending was adorable and hot and I think it wrapped up their story really well. I look forward to seeing more of them in the next book and seeing where they go from here.
