"I love the wildflowers. Wildflowers are strong, resilient, and can grow under most conditions. I want to be like that. I want to have the confidence of wilder flowers, to never give up, and to flourish and thrive."
There's no hiding I'm a sucker for an age gap book, so I was instantly sold! I was told to expect some tears, and damn did this author pull a magic trick. I thought I knew why this book was going to be a tearjerker the entire time, and I was so wrong. Honestly the majority of the book was a sweet age gap between a graduating high school student and her next-door neighbor. This book has a sweet endearing kid, a protective broody man next door, and a sweet small-town vibe. I was coasting through the book on a sweet romance, and then boom. Mass destruction, and I bawled my eyes out. The majority of the surprise comes at the end of this read, otherwise I'd almost say it makes a good pallet cleanser... until it breaks your heart that is. I loved it and can't wait to read the second one in this duet!
Read if you like a forbidden age gap, single dad, slow burn and small-town romance.

I finished this book in a day! I really enjoyed it but as predicted from reviews and tiktoks, the ending was unexpected and sad. Looking forward to reading the sequel.

I picked this up in March and put it down maybe 30 pages in because I couldn’t get into it but I’m glad I gave it another go! The beginning felt kind of slow but around page 150 or 200 it was better. By the time I was in the back half I couldn’t put it down!

The age gap is a little yuck to me. I typically love an age gap but I need my girls to be fully of age, 21 and over! This 18 and 31 but was definitely a lot for me. I have a 19 year old and if she brought home someone that age I swear I’d end up in prison! Looking past that I loved the combination of the story itself and the writing! This book was heavy and heartbreaking but endearing. I got a little bit of every emotion while reading it.

The last 100 pages was shattering to me. I wanted to ugly cry for Forrest and Thayer. By the time I reached the last page I had to pick up book 2 immediately because after all that drama and the cliffhanger I could not go to bed yet lol. I would say this is definitely one to give a chance. The first 1/4 wasn’t that great to me but I’m so glad I stuck it out!

Damn that was NOT what I expected……
please note that the trigger warnings and topes/themes may contain spoilers
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HEA: no – and a cliffhanger
spice: several open-door spicy scenes
TWs: divorce, cheating, cancer diagnosis, trauma, grief, sexual assault, continued sexual abuse of a child, death, child abuse, emotional abuse, death of a child (on page), (implied) surprise pregnancy
standalone: book 1 in the Wildflower series
final thoughts: WHAT. A. ROLLERCOASTER. This was absolutely NOT the book for me. The first like 65% was so good- angsty, slow burny, steamy, adorable, everything I wanted. The last 35% was (for me) a dumpster fire of insane proportions. READ THOS TRIGGER WARNINGS PEOPLE because I wouldn’t’ve read this had I known some of the triggers and that this is not an HEA.
However I know there are lots of people who don’t need an HEA and re just here for a good story so this is for you.

Swoon worthy, age gap. New neighbor next door, and she starts babysitting for him. She has childhood trauma that he becomes protective of her. So sad ending, tears. Sequel involves everything they let go of 6 years ago. 10/10 favorite duet
