I'd give this 3 1/2 if that were an option. Reams have been written about Churchill, far less about Orwell, but this book does a good job of sketching both towering figures and the dramatic times they lived in. Churchill -- the extrovert -- dominates, but reading about Orwell motivated me to check a book of his collected essays out of the library to read next.
Reading this work now is relevant. Consider these ending lines:
"The struggle to see things as they are is perhaps the fundamental driver of Western civilization...It is the agreement that objective reality exists, that people of goodwill can perceive it, and that other people will change their views when presented with the facts of the matter."
Like Churchill and Orwell, it seems we will have to strive mightily to ensure that the tradition continue!

Dry. Doesn’t actually connect Churchill and Orwell. Little narrative to being the history along. Skip it.

Interesting take on how two men in very different positions reacted to world events before, during, and after WWII. One approach to fighting fascism.
I really enjoyed this read. The format of comparing Churchill and Orwell as intriguing contemporaries kept the pace moving in a very engaging way. The history is very interesting and from the European perspective more than the American perspective. The book ends by inviting the reader to use the examples of both men to analyze facts and be open to what is true and question what is most popular.

Readable and solid portrait of these two people, who I agree make for a strong contrast of the views of their time.
