In The Justice of Kings, a man representing the Emperor's Justice and his team investigate the murder of a provincial aristocrat and uncover a broader conspiracy. The magic is creepy, set against an ominous setting. Action scenes are realistically gory and tense. The pacing of this novel is slow, which is appropriate as it relates to the investigation, but scenes involving politics are dull since they are explained to the reader and not seen. Recommended for epic fantasy lovers who enjoy investigative stories with underlying politics.

Pretty interesting. I liked the mystery but it was hard for me to follow the politics stuff. The narration is being told as a story which made it hard to get into the chatacters.

3.5/5. Normally I would give a book with that rating a 4, but unfortunately this one leans more towards a 3. The premise was super intriguing so I had high expectations for The Justice of Kings, but unfortunately there was just something about it that didn't quite click with me. I would put it in a "political or legal fantasy" genre. It's very much a "courtroom drama" style of book so if that clicks with you, then you'll enjoy it. But if you're looking for a typical adventure fantasy, this probably won't be for you.
