Wow. There is so much story packed into so few words here and yet, like Oliver Twist, you'll find yourself begging for more, sir. This story is a thing of beauty - detailed, elegant, bittersweet and packing an emotional punch that seems like it shouldn't be possible given it's length. But it delivers in a way I wasn't at all expecting. So, so good. 4 stars.

I don't love sci fi, but I really enjoyed this. Such emotion in such a short story! I'd love to read more.

"I loved you even when you forgot me."

All the stars for this short story go towards its originality. For it's not a story but a love letter.

It is an ode, a proclamation, a plea.

It is swoon worthy despite its desperate yearning and bleak hope.

For so little words, it has deftly left an impression making me, like Antho, wish for more.

Excepcional.

"But for a few days in a city full of hopelessness, and unkindness, and alienation— in this fucked-up mess of a life spent wandering in the dark without a hand to hold on to....I was not alone."

Y me fui.

Gracias.

I read this twice today - once to myself and then again aloud to my wife. I wanted to be sure that it wasn't just me that felt a dissonant longing for more.

You see, we were both early adopters on the Hugh Howey bandwagon. We read that first short story and wanted more. Having finished all of the Wool series (but none of the fan-fiction. Please.) I can only say that Genao's world building in this story left us more excited than when we finished Howey's first short story. There are so many things about so many things that I can't mention here without fucking up the story. It's that good.

Genao writes in compact, terse sentences that contain entirely more meaning than the ostensible message between the periods. The science fiction, distopic setting that we are able to glimpse but tangentially is a world I want to know further. I am excited to see that the author has more coming from this universe - one short story isn't enough.

ENGLISH

My Gosh! Where were you hidden, Julio?

I ended with tears in my eyes and my heart bleeding for both, but most of all for Antho, he not even has the reliefs of forgetfulness.

A story told epistolaryly with an aesthetics that reminds lightly Matrix, in a futuristic context and with an atemporal essence. .

And a great writing style, cutting to the bone, lyrical in its simplicity and constantly connected with emotion.

Right now I'm going to get myself with any other stories from Syntax universe that are published.

P.S.: I forgot: The book killed me from the quote of the dedication, awesome!
