2...So, this is only the 2nd novel in this series I haven't enjoyed...which is too bad considering! These characters are worth a couple snoozers.

Novel 4.0 / Audiobook Narration 5.0

As with all Glass and Steele novels, if one hasn't read the first 8, don't start with this one. It is one long continuous tale and would not make sense if the reader didn't begin at book 1.

This is a fast-paced novel investigating the theft of a magical item, the loss of a Baroncy, avoiding trapping one into a marriage of convenience/blackmail, and investigating physical threats placed upon magicians as they are found out. Most of the characters are likable, and the ones hard to like are written very well; some are definitely the villains and you hope they get what's coming to them!

I enjoy the style of C.J. Archer and when paired with the audio narration of Marian Hussey, it is the perfect combination. I was surprised by the conclusion and look forward to listening to book 10.

The more of these I read the more their bumbling idiot nature bothers me. There are better solutions and their gauche way of investigating is just painful to read.
