The love for pulp adventure fairly crackles, and the concept ("of course the pulp heroes, teens or no, are psychopathic bad guys") is fine, if a little trite, especially in these post Venture Brothers days.  The main problem is there's no place to stand. Our point of view characters are selfish, deranged, sexually precocious to a skin crawling degree, and so we can't celebrate their casual attitude or smirking coolness no matter how bad the Lovecraftian (literally, and literally) opposition is. The pulps were at least fun and there's really no fun to be had here.

This 80pg book took me over a month to read because I kept telling myself "it's so short, just finish it" after not reading it for days. I don't know, it was fine. Lots of cool and creepy imagery, but was not a fan of Mac and Dred being preteens. I really don't know why they had to be that young and essentially act like adults. If you're trying to have the whole Hardy Boys feel, just make them college aged and with the excessive wealth, they would've had the same life without consequences as children do. But then it wouldn't have me having to read about preteen boys having sex with grown ass women and lusting after grown ass women. It's was creepy and gross.

Boring "boys' adventure" story that is trying way too hard to be shocking and edgy. Despite this it really has no original ideas.
