I thought Ford digressed too often and telegraphed the story too often. I thought it was strange how he introduced Nancy Rufford so late in the book, and although the narrator said he loved her, there weren't any depictions of why.

OMG, reading during the quarter. This book confused me so much, but it had hella affairs, so I was entertained. For context, narrator's wife is fucking narrator's best friend who's also fucking hella other people, and narrator's wife faked a heart condition, so she wouldn't have to fuck narrator. And, also narrator's best friend is in love with his adopted daughter...and narrator is too? Also, I'm traumatized from being trashed in discussion in class :D. Not the way, Ralph (the freshman legend) disagrees with me T_T.
It took me a little while to get into it.
The pace is slow and the style is rambling. But there is a lot to think about.
It held me towards the end.

Pre-WWI White Lotus, dumb rich assholes behave badly and are shocked when consequences happen.

Some very enjoyable sections but I found it difficult to become invested in the characters or the story.
I love the unreliable narrator trope so much.. his wife just commits suicide, he barely mentions her again and we’re meant to just accept he was innocent lol? Everyone in this book is gross and so naive

If I'd know that a book titled The Good Soldier would be all about love, intrigue and adultery, I think I would have picked it off my shelf much sooner!
This is a wonderfully written book, especially the first half. The last half is essentially a dissecting, analyzing and rehashing of the story presented in the first half, so it did drag in parts, but the language was so wonderful I didn't really mind and it went quite quickly. I was skeptical about this book, but I absolutely loved it!
