This was a second read for me, the first time apparently being in college, of which I have no recollection whatsoever. So who knows if I actually read it back then, or if I just skimmed it for content, which is what I was quite tempted to do this time around. Unfortunately this was a bit too wordy for my usual taste, and while I enjoyed the story, I fear that a lot was lost in language and heavy wording. I can value it for the story on its own, though, and give this one a solid 3 stars.

Required reading for my Modern and Contemporary Literature class.
I understand the importance of this novel, as FMF literally started the impressionist movement, but I just cannot get behind it. It’s just a man raving on and on about the man who keeps cheating on his wife, yet he still holds good faith for him. I don’t see the point, to be so honest.
Maybe I’m just bitter that I had to read this entire thing in 5 days. That’s also a possibility, but I think I have the right to hold that bitterness lol.

Impeccably written. One of the saddest books I’ve ever read.
