Um livro difícil de se ler pois a história tem vários vai -e-vens no tempo e se não prestarmos atenção nos perdemos na narrativa . É também um livro muito difícil de se resenhar pois o narrador não sei se é confiável , para mim, Ele é apenas um fingidor que faz vistas grossas a tudo. Adorado por uns (eu) e tido por outros como apenas um livro regular, foi considerado um dos melhores 100 livros já escritos.

Ein wirklich gutes Beispiel für einen unzuverlässigen Erzähler. Man merkt auch, wie viel Arbeit Ford in dieses Werk gesteckt hat; vor allem die Sprache ist wundervoll und sehr intensiv.
Leider hatte es für mich einfach zu viel Drama. Ich habe sowieso schon Mühe mit Beziehungsgeschichten, wenn dann noch so viel Drama Lama dazu kommt, bin ich raus. Anfangs fand ich es noch spannend, vor allem aufgrund des oben erwähnten Erzählers, dem man nichts glauben darf. Mit der Zeit jedoch verflog mein persönliches Interesse, da es für mich einfach zu viel des Guten wurde.
Was, wie immer wieder erwähnt, natürlich nicht bedeutet, dass es kein gutes Buch ist. Die eingangs erwähnten Punkte sprechen definitiv für sich und für das Buch.

Sorry but everything about this is so sad, raw and ambiguous, not my cup of tea. Convincing myself to give it a second try next year.
I’m glad I read this book, but I was ready for it to end. The rambling nature of the narrator was entertaining, but man was this story hard to follow! I get that was the point, and Ford executed it well. Personally, this isn’t my favorite method to tell a story.

Tenho buscado não só sentir mas também observar nos livros este ' algo "a mais nas obras.Esta é mais uma obra sobre adultério, nada escandaloso pois acontece silenciosamente ,debaixo do rigor moral do período vitoriano/ Edwardiano. Um casal americano ,outro inglês, suas diferencas e semelhança quanto a este sentimento perigoso: o amor,que aqui não é lindo,nem feliz .
Afinal pessoas boas ,amor,finais felizes só existem em livros?
Que poder a sociedade tem sobre o individuo que os leva a cumprir uma missao como bons soldados ,das leis e a moral, resignação em não ter o que desejamos.
Afinal ninguém teve seu final feliz ,mas os "vilões " tiveram sua punição, como toda história fictícia sobre amor/justiça idealizada.

More like 1.5 stars. Could not get into the story *at all*. I hated the fully narrated style, and the jumping around. Apparently, these are things that were considered groundbreaking, and where the book's reputation comes from. I actually put it down for a couple of weeks at about page 140. I am glad I finally picked it up to finish, because it improved in the last 60 pages - this is where the half star comes in.
It’s hard to know what to say about this book, other than it is an absolute tour-de-force. Ford is masterful in his use of an unreliable narrator - so much so that you never quite know what has occurred or how much to believe. The book demands a slow pace, that you take your time with it, and by doing so you will be richly rewarded. Highly recommended.
